(Bloomberg) -- Credit-market veteran Naz Majidi is launching a new advisory firm to help asset managers tap fund finance, a market worth more than $1 trillion. Pand Capital will advise managers and investors on raising capital by structuring fund interests into bonds and other debt and equity instruments, according to marketing materials seen by Bloomberg. The firm is partnering with GT Securities to help place the transactions, according to the materials. Private equity and credit firms are increasingly using fund-finance structures to raise capital and generate liquidity. As the sector heats up, the deals have grown larger and more innovative. In April, Carlyle Group Inc. created a novel $8.5 billion vehicle to seed its latest flagship fund, breaking a record for size. Growth is being driven by two forces. Private equity firms haven’t been able to sell companies they purchased years ago at high valuations, putting pressure on liquidity. At the same time, insurance companies are bringing in more cash from surging sales of annuities, creating demand for debt-like instruments tied to private funds. “Private markets are entering a period where capital efficiency and bespoke structuring are increasingly important,” Majidi said in emailed comments. “We founded Pand Capital to help asset managers access insurance capital through tailored solutions, while offering insurers differentiated opportunities aligned with their investment objectives.” Majidi previously shared some of the details about the firm’s launch in a post on LinkedIn earlier this month. “Pand” is the Persian word for advice and guidance. Majidi was most recently a senior managing director at GreensLedge Capital Markets, a boutique firm known for its work with collateralized loan obligations, a roughly $1.3 trillion asset class. She’ll serve as Pand’s chief executive officer. Pand’s focus will include rated feeder notes, collateralized fund obligations and net asset value lines, as well as areas like infrastructure, real estate and maritime finance.
